Heating & Cooling Tips
- Keep your unit in tip-top shape. Before each heating and cooling season, have your central heating and air conditioning systems professionally tuned-up. This is the most important step to preventative maintenance on the system.
- Clean filters flow more air. Maintain healthy air quality by replacing your air filter every month. A dirty filter also restricts airflow and causes the unit to run longer during cycles, creating more wear and tear on your whole system. In extreme conditions, dirty filters may even cause your unit to freeze-up.
- Clean debris away from the unit. Especially during the summer, check your outdoor condenser unit for leaves and debris. Keep any shrubs or growth at least 2 feet away from the unit. When mowing, aim the clippings away from the unit. These obstructions cause poor air flow and can damage the unit.
- Don’t use the A/C on a cool day. Running your air conditioner when it is below 60 degrees fahrenheit can damage the compressor, causing costly repairs.
- Set your thermostat wisely: For every 1 degree that the unit has to satisfy, there is a 9% hike in run time. Raising the thermostat a couple degrees in the summer and lowering it in the winter will cause less wear and tear on the system, and reduce energy bills.
- Don’t make your HVAC system work harder than it needs to. Check for air loss through cracks around windows and doors. Outside air getting in, or inside air getting out, makes your unit work harder to keep the temperature satisfied.
More About Brentwood TN
The first known residents of Brentwood were prehistoric Native Americans. Known as Mound Indians or Stone Box Indians, these Mississippian-period people built mounds with ceremonial buildings. Such early villages have been found in the Meadowlake subdivision, at the library site on Concord Road and at Primm Historic Park where the largest of the mounds is still visible today. By 1300 the groups had seemingly disappeared. No one knows if it was due to disease or to their choosing to leave because of threat of warfare.
